Dear Mitul,
Sammy started using the Avaz app under your guidance a few months ago. I had made several unsuccessful attempts over the years to introduce him to Avaz.
This time, we had started using print outs of screenshots of Avaz icons as communication boards which helped him transition to the actual app without too much difficulty.
After the usual initial resistance, Sammy has recently become more cooperative in his Avaz classes. I realized that earlier I had tried Avaz for mainly functional needs which was not motivating for him as he had other means to communicate them. Talking about school trips, festivals and weekend events is what he prefers. It has been heartening to see him transfer skills learned in school like Calendar to Avaz.
He enjoys your lessons using Avaz for picture & story comprehension especially if it involves food! He is also able to indicate how he is feeling that day. I have begun using Avaz for other online classes and I'm happy to say that he is able to communicate how he feels in his OT class. He is more cooperative in OT as he is able to have a say in what exercises he has to do.
I like how you combine his Avaz and DL sessions - reading a story using PPT and answering questions on Avaz instead of typing.
I have noticed he is trying to make phrases on his own - when doing weather or calendar, he often adds the word 'today'. He still finds navigating the folders, challenging, due to his poor coordination skills. However, I'm confident that he will get better at it with your help. I would also like to thank you for staying calm and pushing through his tantrums.
Please continue the wonderful work you are doing and fingers crossed, we can get Sammy initiating communication by himself soon!
